As a former barista of Starbucks, it is pretty hard to be impressed by the gimmicky beverages they usually put out. With the autumnal drink season upon us, Starbucks released its first new drink in 16 years.
The pumpkin cream cold brew is an intriguing addition to go alongside their OG fall beverage, the PSL. Its a fairly straightforward drink: cold brew coffee, vanilla syrup, topped with a pumpkin spiced infused cream and dusted with some fall spices.
I cut the syrup out because it makes it a bit too sweet for my liking (and saves a few calories for a slice of their pumpkin bread). The cream topping is blended to make it more of a pumpkin cream foam that gently mixes into the cold brew, and is made with their pumpkin sauce so it lends a touch of sweetness to counteract the bitterness of the cold brew. The spice topping sits on top so if you don’t want a sip of cinnamon, definitely give it a little stir.
As a fan of their cold brew alone (and their nitro cold brew), I definitely think that this beverage is a great addition that is easily worthy of being on the menu alongside the PSL. For people that don’t want to drown in sweetness and want a bit of pumpkin love to add to their day, the new pumpkin cream cold brew is for you.
If you are looking for a nice breakfast addition to this, I highly suggest either the pumpkin bread or banana nut bread to make every day feel like fall.
