8 Ways to Love Yourself on Valentine’s Day & Every Day

Yes, I know the whole self-love thing is being tweeted and spoken about all over the place right now, but a lot of girls still have no clue how to love themselves or what exactly self-love is. Of course, self-love means something different to everyone, and not everyone practices it the same way. Self-love can be anything from taking the time out of your day to take a nap, to going out and buying yourself lunch. To me, practicing self-love is important because, in the end, no one will love yourself as much as you love yourself.

When I feel down, or when I am just completely filled with the self-deprecating thoughts, the only thing that helps is drenching myself in self-love. (For me, it’s watching reruns of The Real Housewives while eating an entire bag of pizza rolls. Don’t judge me.)

Here’s a list of a few other ways you can practice self-love:

1. Tell yourself.

Practice daily affirmations. Make yourself believe what you are saying. Here are a few affirmations I like to think about:

My body is healthy. My mind is brilliant. My heart is at peace.

I acknowledge my own self-worth; my confidence is soaring.

I am at peace with all that has happened, is happening, and will happen because I know that everything is towards my highest good.

My efforts are being supported by the universe; my dreams are manifesting into reality before my eyes.

2. Make a self-love journal.

JOURNAL EVERYTHING. Your strengths, your mood, your dreams, wandering thoughts, and everything you are grateful for. Write down everything you accomplish, feel good about, etc.

3. Treat your body right. Eat healthy foods and exercise.

Put an effort into grocery shopping and meal preparation. Stop feeding your body so much fast food, and treat it to a smoothie and a homecooked meal instead. Go to the gym, practice yoga in the park, or have some fun and do an at-home Zumba workout. You deserve it.

4. Sleep!

Possibly the most overlooked act of self-love. Prioritize sleep. Give yourself the chance to reboot and revitalize. Make some time for a well-deserved nap.

5. Make time for fun.

Find a hobby, or pick up where you left off on a hobby you did as a child. Remember what you used to love doing, and make time for it. You deserve “you” time, and you deserve to have fun.

6. Bubble baths.

Girls, you already know. Bubbles, bath bombs, and wine are a necessity.

7. Have a spa day.

One of my favorite acts of self-love! Give yourself an at-home spa treatment by doing a face mask and give yourself a mini facial. Maybe throw in a hair mask too. Better yet, go to the mall and get yourself a manicure and pedicure!

8. Treat yourself!

This is self-explanatory ladies. Buy yourself something nice, and something that makes you happy. While you’re at it, it’d probably be a good idea to get rid of things that bring you negativity.
